Community Education

To fulfill one of its key missions, Joy JEM is seeking to create employment opportunities, training programs and formal education, through the secondary school level (High School equivalency), by collaborating with Detroit Public Schools to establish alternative educational programs and a series of educational/networking forums.

The Joy JEM CEO and Board of Directors’ goal is to open the Eddie Edwards Leadership Academy (EELA).  This academy will be an instrument for “place making” in a two-fold manner and a focal point to re-establish a declining neighborhood.  Our vision is for EELA to become the “neighborhood center” that will create bonds between families. The academy would offer community educational, recreational activities and leadership training opportunities for the residents and adults of the neighborhood(s) it serves.
